"It’s My Own Invention" film premiere at Close-Up Film Centre

"It’s My Own Invention" film premiere at Close-Up Film Centre

The world premiere of a new motion picture from the maker of “Heated Gloves” at Close-Up, 97 Sclater Street, London E1 6HR. "It’s My Own Invention" is William English’s film portrait of Hugh de la Cruz, who for the last two decades has been compulsively obsessed with the perfection of a perpetual motion machine. Hugh calls it “My Invention” and frequently becomes agitated and impatient about its progress. Nobody will listen to him and if the machine is ever made, the powers that be will certainly want to sabotage it as it will render conventional sources of energy obsolete.
With a soundtrack by Dan Wilson, “It’s My Own Invention” is another extraordinary film from film-maker and Resonance broadcaster William English. Duration: 78 minutes. The film will be followed by a Q&A with the director anchored by Seth Pimlott.

:zoviet*france: + Ron Geesin + Langham Research Centre at Cafe Oto

A rare London performance by :zoviet:france:, enigmatic Newcastle-based pioneers of post-industrial electro-acoustic ambient music (and creators of "A Duck In A Tree" on Resonance FM and Resonance Extra), whose numerous live and recorded works of "unreserved beauty" (The Wire) for over 35 years have given them the status of "the ultimate cult electronic band" (Ambient Music Guide).

Plus an even rarer London performance by living legend Ron Geesin, madcap improvising pianist, past master of tape collage and radiophonic montage, acclaimed composer for John Schlesinger’s "Sunday Bloody Sunday," collector of adjustable spanners - and legendary co-composer with Pink Floyd on "Atom Heart Mother."

Langham Research Centre is the UK's leading group devoted to authentic performances of classic electronic music. LRC work with obsolete equipment including tape recorders, gramophone cartridges and sine wave oscillators, to perform authentic versions of 20th century classic electronic repertoire by John Cage, Alvin Lucier and others, as well as their own compositions.
